Old Wonga Beach
Old Wonga Beach is a small village, on the coast of Far North Queensland, Australia. It is situated a spectacular one and a half hours drive north of the international airport in Cairns. Surrounded by the Daintree Rainforest and the Coral Sea, Wonga Beach is half an hour north of Port Douglas, and 15 minutes drive from the sugar cane town of Mossman. The distinctive old school laid back atmosphere, reminds us of Port Douglas in the seventies/early eighties. Its quiet here - no cafes, just a small store and a bottle shop to keep the locals happy.
The Daintree River is only ten minutes away - Take a cruise up river and come face to face with large crocodiles and pythons in their natural habitat from the comfort and safety of a cruise boat. The Incredible Mossman Gorge is only fifteen minutes away, cool off in the refreshing waters. Rainforest River drifting, rainforest zip lining, mountain climbing - if you’re feeling adventurous, this is also the perfect base. The Mossman Farmer's Market every Saturday is a wonderful mix of arts, crafts and local produce. If chilling out is you’re goal, grab the hammocks and hook them onto the palm trees on the beach, and let the gentle seabreeze rock you to sleep. Spend days lazing and walking on the remote 14km beach, that you will most likely have to yourself. Hike scenic trails to Cape Tribulation where tropical rainforest and coral reef meet. The area is unique, a rainforest that has been in existence for more than 120 million years and contains some plant and animal species not seen anywhere else in the world. Breathing in this clear air, looking up to the millions as you bathe in the claw bath on the back deck, picking the most luscious mangoes from our tree. Your in tropical heaven! Its the perfect place to unwind.
